PROJECT SUMMARY

The project involves developing a state-of-the-art training facility for the North Queensland Cowboys. This cutting-edge complex will feature a range of top-tier amenities designed to support and enhance athletic training and performance. Key components include an indoor playing field to accommodate various sports and training needs, a restaurant for team meals and events, and a fully equipped gymnasium for strength and conditioning. The facility will also house indoor swimming pools for aquatic training and recovery, a dedicated theatre for team meetings and presentations, and specialized medical facilities to support player health and rehabilitation. This comprehensive facility aims to provide an all-encompassing environment that fosters excellence and well-being for the team.

Key Engineering Details

Located on the banks of the Ross Creek, the ground conditions on the site comprise uncontrolled fill over high compressible estuarine sands and clays. Bornhorst & Ward proposed the use of an innovative ground improvement solution (CMC rigid inclusions) to control long-term ground settlements and eliminate the requirement for piles or a suspended slab on ground. The upper suspended floors comprised 2-way PT slabs, with special consideration given to servicebaility requirements (vibration impacts on specialist imaging equipment and concrete mix design for durablity to indoor pool areas).
